1- College Choices: Make Sure You Have An Extensive List.

Don’t let things seem more complicated than they are. Don’t feel pressured to CHOOSE right now! There are so many college and scholarship choices, so what do you do? Create an extensive list of those colleges, scholarships and programs that resonate with your athletes needs and wants. Stick to the ‘6 Steps to a Successful College Scholarship Application’. I guarantee you, your athlete will achieve success.

Create Your Lists, Register With Required Associations, and Take Action!

It’s strongly advised that you register your athlete with the appropriate organisation in your area. This could be the NCAA (USA & CAN), NJCAA etc, when you know college is a strong possibility. This process is long, so i can’t stress the importance of early preparation enough. Studying in Oz? Register with the AIS, State Institutes or Academies of Sport, or, a state sporting association, such as AFL Players Association.

You can apply for more than one scholarship/program at one time. Nothing is set in stone until you complete the process and sign on the dotted line.

Don’t let things become an impossible cloud of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. Have fun, enjoy this process with your baby that’s not quite a baby anymore. Make several choices together and create a memory to last forever.

We can help you achieve this and so much more. I will show you how to make the process fun and easy! You will save hundreds of thousands in college fees, and that’s just the beginning. 2- Stay Calm! Division 1 is Not The Be All And End All

Not being level 1 or 2 is not the end of the scholarship road! ‘6 Steps To A Successful College Scholarship Application’ will show you division 1 colleges are just one option among many.

Keep Calm, Stay Focused, Take Action.

There are many options out there, and a good place to start is the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). They offer over 60 000 student-athletes, the chance to obtain entry on a sports program as opposed to a scholarship. There are associations like this all over the world just waiting for students to snatch them up. Please encourage your athlete to remember this. Be open to the possibilities and numerous options. Help your athlete learn that rejection is not failure. It’s simply a sign that something better is waiting around the corner.

That’s one other option. There are plenty more where that came from. All you need to remember is this, Early Preparation = Successful Application. Take away the fear and overwhelm, replace it with fun and laughter. If you would like help exploring your athletes options, jump on a consultation call. 3- Recruit Your Coach: Your Athlete Needs To Feel A Bond

It’s important to put your athlete in front of potential college coaches. It’s also important that your athlete is comfortable with them as a coach. Of course, the coach recruits them, however, your athlete also needs to recruit the coach. They need to feel a bond that will be built on trust and rapport, respect and communication. Without these, your athlete will most likely struggle to feel comfortable. Given how much time they will spend with each other, this only makes sense right?

Recruit Your Coach

Put your athlete in front of college coaches, have them communicating with them, and asking questions. Encourage them to show up to college training sessions, and invite coaches back to their own training. Keep focused on check-in emails. Be consistent in telling coaches how much they are looking forward to being a part of their team.

Be specific and thorough. Make official and unofficial visits to the college, reach out on social media, and frequently update coaches with sporting goals. Your athlete must be comfortable with their coach. This will help them achieve maximum performance, and ensure their transition to college is as smooth as possible. Your athlete and the coach will be spending a significant amount of time together. Negative feelings will have a negative impact on their college experience. If you would like to discuss how to best approach this, jump on a free 30 minute consultation call. On the call I will walk you through this process. 5- Apply Everywhere: Your Athlete is not Limited to One Scholarship.

There are so many types of scholarships your athlete can pursuit. I cannot stress enough, just how important it is to research every nook and cranny for these hidden gems. Your athlete is not limited to one scholarship. They can apply for as many, and as often as they like. Spend time researching what scholarships are needed to put your athlete through college in their first year. And subsequent years after that. My ‘6 Steps To A Successful College Scholarship Application’ will help you to achieve this.

It is strongly advised that your athlete continues to apply for scholarships right throughout their entire time at college/university.
